You want to get rich so that you may eat, drink, and be merry when it comes time to do these things, so that you may surround yourself with beautiful things, visit faraway lands, nourish and develop your mind, so that you may love mankind and do good things, and be able to play a role in helping the world to find truth.

But remember that excess altruism is no better or more honorable than excess selfishness. Both are mistakes.

Forget about the idea that God wants you to sacrifice yourself for others, and that you can win his love by doing that. God does not require anything like that.

God wants you to make the most of yourself, for yourself and for others. And, the best way you can help others more is by making the most of yourself.

You can only make the most of yourself by getting rich. So it is good and admirable to devote your first and best thoughts to the work of obtaining wealth.

하나님이 당신이 타인을 위해서 희생하고, 그를 통해 하나님의 사랑을 드러내길 바란다는 생각은 지워버려라. 하나님은 그런 것을 요구하지 않는다.

하나님은 당신이, 당신 스스로와 타인을 위해서 자신을 최대한 발전시키길 바란다. 그리고 그렇게 하는 것이 타인을 도울 수 있는 최선의 방법이기도 하다.

부자가 될 때에만 당신은 스스로를 최대한 발전시킬 수 있다. 따라서 더 많은 부를 얻는 것을 가장 첫 번째로 생각하는 것은 옳고 칭찬할 만한 일이다.
